“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.”
Collecting art can be intimidating but if you remember these tips, it needn’t be.
• Learn what you like by visiting galleries and museums often; when something catches your eye, take the time to see what the painting is about, think about its meaning to you.
• Pay attention to your reactions and instincts.
• Don’t buy something because someone told you it was a good investment or it goes with the sofa; buy what you love.
• Ask questions. Artists and Gallery owners love to talk about their art.
In October we will be part of an exhibit at 311 Gallery where select artists are sharing their favorite pieces with you in an exhibit called “Artist’s Choice”. The artists will be available to answer your questions and talk about their work with you. Come out and enjoy the gallery circuit during the First Friday Art Walk. You just might find something that you love!
“Art, undeniably, is conducive to happiness.”
